The statement was delivered by Ambassador Thomas Zahneisen, Deputy Permanent Representative.
The situation in Haiti is extremely concerning, and it’s clear that international support is essential.
Germany stands firmly alongside Haiti and our regional and international partners in the collective mission to support stability, security, and peace.
This effort goes far beyond immediate security concerns; it’s about building the foundation for communities to thrive, for people to access essential services, and for economic recovery to take root.
However, Haiti’s needs are vast and complex, and addressing them requires the continued support of all partners, such as financial contributions to the MSS Trust Fund, technical assistance or humanitarian aid.
We appreciate guidance how to support best and we perceive the work of this Group as extremely helpful in this regard. We are grateful for our admission to the Group in June this year.
This week, as part of our commitment to this cause, Germany is contributing 10 million euros to the MSS Trust Fund. This is meant as a starting point, we want to engage more in the upcoming months.
Tackling the root causes will need much more time, but we see the restoration of Haiti’s security as prerequisite for progress on other fronts.
We would like to join efforts with yours, knowing that a united international community is key to send a strong message of solidarity for Haiti and to mobilize the maximum of support.
