The statement was delivered by Dr Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Mr. Vice-President,
Excellencies,
Distinguished delegates,
Ladies and gentlemen,

“The people of the world have asked us to shine a light on a future of promise and opportunity. Member States have responded with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

These were the words of former Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon at the adoption of the 2030 Agenda. Today, 10 years later, they remind us that the 2030 Agenda is a vision for a better future. And a commitment to all people on this planet. A commitment to leave no one behind.

But we, as a world community, risk losing sight of this shared vision.
We are not on track with many of the SDGs.
Continuous crises have thrown us back, crushing many people’s hope for a better future.
Development financing is declining.
And the rules-based international order itself has come under pressure.

The challenges seem immense, but I am confident:
If we, as UN members, pull together to make a renewed and shared effort, we can tackle them.
The Compromiso de Sevilla that was reached at the FfD4 Conference earlier this month shows: as member states we can find common ground despite geopolitical challenges. We can move forward on the SDGs. Multilateralism works.

Germany is ready to take a leading role. Our third National Voluntary Review 2025 shows that we are committed to implementing the 2030 Agenda.
Our report shows that we have made progress for example on gender equality, on reducing inequalities or expanding renewable energies.
A key success factor for this progress has been participation. In Germany, the different levels of government work together with key stakeholders in implementing the Agenda 2030 – with stakeholders from civil society, business and academia.
Because change needs many voices and many perspectives. Our report makes very clear that participation moves us forward.
Participation works!

We can only achieve the 2030 Agenda together. And this is why Germany remains a strong and reliable partner at the multilateral level.
We are not looking for unilateral action, but rather for joint responses to common challenges.
That is why I promise you: You can count on us.

To make the multilateral system stronger and a better fit for the future, we support the ongoing reform process. 80 years after the founding of the United Nations, we are actively shaping the UN80 reform. And we are confident: the reforms can give us a direction that everyone can rally behind. It can renew our common commitment – and strengthen the United Nations.

Thank you.
