Mr. Chair, Excellencies, Distinguished Delegates,

Germany aligns itself with the statement delivered by the European Union and would like to add the following remarks in its national capacity.

Let me begin by thanking Under-Secretary-General Melissa Fleming and her team for their continued leadership and tireless work. I also thank the previous speakers for their thoughtful contributions.

In the Committee on Information, we all understand the central role of communication in explaining the work of the United Nations, and in helping it succeed. The ability to convey credible, inclusive and timely information is an essential pillar of effective multilateralism.

This is particularly true in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, such as peacekeeping and peacebuilding.

First, as we look toward the future of peacekeeping – and we will do so extensively during the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Germany in May – we must recognize that UN peacekeeping missions are challenged on the ground and in the information space. Increasingly, peacekeepers are the target of mis- and disinformation campaigns. These campaigns endanger lives, undermine trust in missions, and erode support for international engagement. Information integrity must be part of our collective peacekeeping toolbox.
Germany appreciates DGC’s continued work in this field especially the “Service and Sacrifice campaign” which is mentioned in the SG Report on DGC’s campaigns. Germany will further support efforts to counter harmful narratives and to equip missions with the tools to respond proactively.

Second, in our role as Chair of the UN Peacebuilding Commission in 2025, Germany is committed to making peacebuilding more visible - and more understandable. Peacebuilding does not often make headlines, but its impact is real: it addresses root causes and prevents violence. Effective communication helps the PBC to convey this message. The PBC's bridging role across the UN system must include the information domain. DGC makes an important contribution to this, for example through the explainer videos of the Video Section .
Clear, fact-based communication plays a crucial role for the effectiveness of both, peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts. This is why Germany continues to support DGC and further UN entities such as DPO, DPPA and PBSO to ensure that accurate, fact-based, and inclusive information reaches all corners of the world.

Thank you.
