The Security Council held closed consultations on the implementation of resolution 1559 (2004).
The Security Council received the briefing of USG Rosemary di Carlo who presented the last report of the Secretary General and updated the Council on the latest developments in Lebanon.
The members of the Security Council reaffirmed their strong support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence and security of Lebanon. They welcomed the institutional progress and reconstruction efforts following the formation of the new government as an opportunity to continue strengthening and extending the authority of the Lebanese state, in accordance with resolution 1559 and 1701 of the Security Council.
They also recalled that the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) are the only legitimate armed forces of Lebanon, as enshrined in the Lebanese constitution and in the Taif Agreement and encouraged the international community to continue its support to the LAF’s capabilities.
