Current European Union members of the Security Council, Estonia, France and Ireland, and the previous European union members of the Council, Belgium and Germany, joined today by the delegation of the European Union, welcome the participation of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mr. Josep Borrell, in today's Security Council meeting on cooperation between the United Nations and the European Union.
This meeting demonstrated that the European Union, in cooperation with the United Nations, provides concrete and effective solutions to threats to international peace and security.
Our message from this meeting is simple. The European Union is ready to do even more, notably in Libya, in Syria, in the Middle-East, in Sahel, in Tigray, in Afghanistan and in Ukraine, as J. Borrell has just said. The European Union will remain a staunch supporter of a strong UN.
In all crisis areas, the European Union is mobilizing to build sustainable international peace and security in cooperation with the United Nations and is promoting the full, equal and meaningful participation of women in peace and political processes.
In New York, European Union members of the Security Council, with the support of the European Union delegation and of the Member States of the European Union and in cooperation with all the members of the Security Council, will continue to work tirelessly to build a strong and vibrant multilateralism and defend the rules-based international order. This is also why we are deepening the strategic relationship with the UN and look forward to the meeting later this month in Brussels between the UN Secretary General and European Leaders.
