Excellencies, distinguished colleagues, and esteemed guests,
I thank the Chair for organizing this meeting and would like to extend a warm welcome to the distinguished Liberian Ministers H.E. Madam Beysolow Nyanti and H.E. Madam Horace Kollie. Your continuous engagement with the PBC underlines Liberia’s firm commitment to peacebuilding and sustaining peace. I also would like to thank the briefers for their insightful remarks.
Liberia's journey in the last decades is nothing short of remarkable. The recent launch of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development is another testament to Liberia's forward-looking vision. We are convinced that this comprehensive plan, with its emphasis on inclusivity, economic transformation, and human capital development, is a significant stride towards a prosperous and peaceful future.
We also commend the Government of Liberia for its decision to establish the War and Economic Crimes Court. This important step towards justice and accountability is crucial for healing and reconciliation. It is imperative to ensure that the court is perceived as transparent, independent, and neutral. This requires close cooperation with civil society, lawyers' associations, and victims' groups to embed the court deeply within the population.
Women have been at the forefront of Liberia's peace process, playing pivotal roles as advocates, leaders and peacebuilders. We commend Liberia's dedication to the Women, Peace, and Security agenda and encourage the Government of Liberia to renew its national strategy on WPS, which provides an important framework for the full, equal and meaningful participation of women and girls in every part of the peace process.
Excellencies, Liberia's commitment to the core principles of the United Nations is evident in its imminent election to the Security Council. We look forward to collaborating closely with Liberia in this new capacity, in particular with a view to strengthening the interaction between the Security Council and the PBC. Liberia’s own journey, as well as the nation's resilience and dedication to peacebuilding can serve as an inspiring example for other countries emerging from conflict. Germany stands ready to support Liberia in its continued journey towards peace, justice, and inclusive development.
I thank you.
